Description:
This product is a 24-hour digital circuit clock, using chips such as CD4518, CD4511, CD4081, CD4013, and CD4060. The circuit does not contain a microcontroller, therefore it is unprogrammed. Hours, minutes, and seconds can be synchronized, but it does not have an alarm function.
This kit mainly consists of a second signal generator, counter, decoder display, and time synchronization circuit. The second pulse is a 1Hz square wave signal obtained by precise frequency division from a high-frequency signal generator, ensuring accurate timing.
The second signal generator consists of CD4060 and CD4013, producing a 1Hz square wave signal. The CD4060 is a 14-stage binary divider/oscillator. It, along with external resistors R44, R43, C1, C2, and Y1, forms a 32768Hz oscillator. After the 14-stage binary divider, a 2Hz square wave signal is obtained at pin 3. The CD4013 contains two independent D flip-flops. One of these flip-flops is configured as a binary counter, which counts the input 2Hz square wave signal to obtain the second signal. The CD4518 is a dual decimal adder counter. Three CD4518s are used to time hours, minutes, and seconds, with hours configured in base 24 and minutes and seconds in base 60. The counting result from the CD4518 is output in BCD code from pins Q0-Q3 to the BCD decoder CD4511. The CD4511 converts the BCD code into the corresponding segment code that illuminates the digital display, forming recognizable Arabic numerals on the display and visually showing the current timing result.
The minutes and seconds are counted in a base-60 system. The second signal is introduced to the EN terminal of the CD4518 via switch S1, incrementing by 1 on each falling edge of the second signal (if the second signal is connected to the CLK terminal of the CD4518, it increments by 1 on each rising edge of the second signal). When the counter counts to 9, Q0-Q3 output 1001, meaning Q3 is 1. Since it is a decimal counter, when the next second signal arrives, the counter changes from 9 to 0, and Q0-Q3 outputs 0000, thus forming a falling edge signal on Q3. This signal is introduced to the tens digit counter of the seconds counter. Every time the units digit counter reaches 10, the tens digit counter increments by 1. When the tens digit count reaches 6, Q0-Q3 output 0110, meaning Q1 and Q2 are both 1. Q1 and Q2 are connected to the reset terminal of the counter via an AND gate, causing the counter to count from 6 to 0 ahead of schedule, completing one base-60 counting cycle. Reset signal. Simultaneously serving as the counting signal for the minute counter, the minute counter increments by 1 every 60 seconds. The minute counter is also a base-60 counter. When the minute counter reaches 60, the tens digit of the minute counter is reset by an AND gate, causing the hour counter value to increment by 1. When the counter reaches 24, the tens digit's Q0-Q3 are 0010 and the units digit's Q0-Q3 are 0100. By performing an AND operation on the tens digit's Q1 and the units digit's Q2 and connecting them to the reset terminals of the two counters, the hour digit resets to 0 after reaching 24, achieving a base-24 counting system.
